Registrato a due anni e mezzo da «Sirene», ma pubblicato dopo solo dodici mesi, quasi a confermare la felice vena creativa del chitarrista goriziano Riccardo Chiarion, «Mosaico» ripropone un gruppo simile al precedente ma che registra due importanti cambiamenti: Pietro Tonolo per Michele Polga al sax tenore, Alessandro Turchet per Stefano Senni al contrabbasso. Si riforma così, grazie alla conferma del batterista Luca Colussi, una fra le coppie ritmiche più richieste ed affiatate del momento, non solo del Triveneto. Il nuovo quartetto, allestito da Chiarion per un importante concerto nella sua città natale, appare abbastanza duttile e ferrato per poter suonare brani armonicamente densi in maniera disinvolta, ed esprimere, allo stesso tempo, una forte carica di energia. Turchet e Colussi esibiscono inoltre una buona dose di sensibilità artistica, prodigandosi per arricchire in maniera costruttiva il materiale compositivo proposto dal leader, confermandosi sezione ritmica ideale, al punto giusto entusiasta, propositiva e stimolante. Non sembra necessario sottolineare ancora le ben note qualità tecnico - espressive del sassofonista veneziano, nel cui gruppo il chitarrista aveva fra l'altro avuto occasione di suonare per quasi tre anni. Quest'incisione riesce a rivelare piuttosto alcune caratteristiche della sua complessa personalità spesso colpevolmente tenute nascoste, o riposte in secondo piano. Oltre ad una straordinaria musicalità , Tonolo qui disvela un insospettabile "fuoco" espressivo, con cui riesce a valorizzare anche il materiale tematico più articolato e complesso. Il disco è stato registrato in una sola giornata; quasi tutti i brani sono quindi una prima "take", e forse per questo appaiono particolarmente freschi e riusciti. L'album rappresenta un vero e proprio "mosaico" di situazioni musicali diverse, dove temi veloci e melodici, ad esempio Nostri sogni, Dinamico e Un anno, vengono bilanciati da altri più rarefatti, come Nuvole e Valzer sospeso, dove ritmi binari si alternano ad altri ternari e composti, dove le situazioni emotive passano dal jazz rilassato al rock più intenso (Mosaico) od all'atmosfera sottilmente nebulosa di Mare d'Inverno.

Recorded two and a half years after «Sirene», but released only 12 months after it, as if to stress the inspired artistic streak of the guitarist Riccardo Chiarion, from Gorizia, «Mosaico» is characterized by a line - up similar to the previous album, except for two important changes. Pietro Tonolo replaces Michele Polga at the tenor sax and Alessandro Turchet replaces Stefano Senni at the double bass. Given the participation of the drummer Luca Colussi, we find again one among the most requested and close - knit rhythm section of the moment, and not only of Triveneto area. Chiarion put the new quartet together for an important concert in his hometown. Such band seems to be flexible and skilled enough to play confidently songs that are teeming in their harmony, while conveying a strong energy at the same time. Moreover, Turchet and Colussi exhibit a good artistic sensibility: they do all they can to enrich the leader's compositions in a constructive way. Thus they prove to be the ideal rhythm section, enthusiastic, proactive and stimulating to the right point. There is no need to stress again the well - known technical and expressive qualities of the Venetian saxophonist (besides, Chiarion played in his group for nearly three years). Interestingly, this album manages to reveal some features of Tonolo's complex personality that are often guiltily hidden or left in the background. Beyond an extraordinary musicality, Tonolo shows an unsuspected expressive fire, which helps him to enhance the value of even the most articulate and complex thematic material. The album was recorded in only one day; thus nearly all the songs are a first take and perhaps this is the reason why they seem particularly vital and well done. The album represents an out - and - out ""mosaic" of different musical situations: fast and melodic themes, for example Nostri sogni, Dinamico and Un anno, are balanced by more rarefied themes, such as Nuvole and Valzer sospeso, in which binary rhythms alternate with ternary and compound ones. Also the emotional situations pass from relaxed jazz to very strong rock (Mosaico) or to the thinly hazy atmosphere of Mare d'Inverno."
