Pensato nel 2006 dal compositore Stefano Bellon per il ventennale della morte di Goffredo Parise, «Note sui Sillabari» si è sviluppato come melologo con la partecipazione della Thelonious Monk Big Band diretta da Marcello Tonolo, che ha completato con Bellon le musiche di scena, e con il coinvolgimento dello scrittore Vitaliano Trevisan (1960–2022), che ha trasformato l’omaggio a Parise in un lavoro nuovo e originale, diventandone regista e voce recitante. Il melologo è stato rappresentato cinque volte fra il 2007 e il 2009 ed è stato registrato in studio nel 2011. Tenuto per un decennio nel cassetto, il libro con Cd, contenente le registrazioni della voce di Trevisan, dell’elettronica di Bellon e della big band, è stato pubblicato da Inschibboleth nel 2022, sei mesi dopo la prematura scomparsa del suo autore. A un anno dalla pubblicazione il melologo è rinato con un nuovo allestimento grazie all’incontro fra l’attrice Patricia Zanco e Marcello Tonolo. I nuovi arrangiamenti per trio jazz rendono questo lavoro assai diverso dall’originale ma altrettanto interessante. Il nuovo spettacolo ha avuto tredici rappresentazioni fra il 2023 ed il 2025. Nell’adattamento per trio operato da Tonolo la musica è sensibilmente cambiata e, considerando anche l’affiatamento raggiunto dal gruppo, abbiamo così deciso di registrarla. Il titolo dell’album, «Sillabari Mood», sottolinea la distanza dal precedente lavoro ma ne richiama allo stesso tempo lo spirito e l’ispirazione. Il collegamento è reso ancor più evidente dalla traccia in cui Patricia Zanco legge l’ultimo capitolo di «Note sui Sillabari», che in qualche modo sintetizza l’intera opera. Tornando alla musica, merita di venire evidenziato l’eccellente lavoro svolto dal pianista veneto che, oltre a proporre nuovi arrangiamenti dei tre brani composti nel 2006 per big band (Come la vista del cobra, A cose fatte, Un pomeriggio così), ne aggiunge altrettanti, egualmente splendidi, confermando la sua sempre fervida vena compositiva. La musica del trio scorre intensa e fluida grazie anche al prezioso supporto fornito dalla coppia ritmica formata da Domenico Santaniello, al contrabbasso e al violoncello – splendido il suo assolo in Nulla più – e dal più giovane ma già personale Enrico Smiderle alla batteria.

Conceived in 2006 by composer Stefano Bellon to mark the 20th anniversary of Goffredo Parise’s death, «Note sui Sillabari» took shape as a melologue involving the Thelonious Monk Big Band, conducted by Marcello Tonolo, who worked with Bellon to complete the incidental music, and writer Vitaliano Trevisan (1960–2022), who transformed the tribute to Parise into a new and original work, becoming its director and narrator. The melologue was performed five times between 2007 and 2009, and was then recorded in the studio in 2011. Kept in a drawer for a decade, the book–and–CD edition, containing recordings of Trevisan’s voice, Bellon’s electronics and the big band, was published by Inschibboleth in 2022, six months after the author’s untimely death. One year after its publication, the melologue was brought back to life in a new production through the meeting of actress Patricia Zanco and Marcello Tonolo. The new arrangements for jazz trio make this work considerably different from the original, but just as interesting. The new production was performed thirteen times between 2023 and 2025. In Tonolo’s adaptation for trio, the music has changed considerably and, given the strong interplay that had developed within the group, and so we decided to record it. The album’s title, «Sillabari Mood», underlines its distance from the previous work while at the same time evoking its spirit and inspiration. The connection is made even more explicit by the presence of the track in which Patricia Zanco reads the final chapter of «Note sui Sillabari», which in a sense provides a synthesis of the entire work. Turning to the music, particular mention should be made of the excellent work of the Venetian pianist. In addition to creating new arrangements of the three pieces composed in 2006 for big band (Come la vista del cobra, A cose fatte, Un pomeriggio così), he adds three equally splendid new compositions, once again confirming his ever–fertile creative vein. The trio’s music flows with intensity and fluency, thanks also to the invaluable support of its rhythm section: Domenico Santaniello on double bass and cello—his solo on Nulla più is particularly outstanding—and the younger but already distinctive Enrico Smiderle on drums.
