"Ad solo un anno da «Rumors» (Caligola 2224), album del debutto che ha destato molta attenzione in differenti ambiti musicali per la sua fresca trasversalità , il trio New Landscapes è protagonista di un
nuovo avvincente progetto, che guarda con attenzione al mondo musicale arabo ed al Medio Oriente in
particolare. Tutto è nato dall'esperienza avuta da Luca Chiavinato e da Dario Bano percussionista,
nell'estate 2017 nel Campo di Domiz, nel Kurdistan iracheno, giunto a raccogliere oltre 30.000 profughi
siriani. Un'esperienza "forte", come si usa dire in questi casi, ma allo stesso tempo artisticamente molto
stimolante. Lavorare giorno dopo giorno con i giovani musicisti del Campo ma anche con dei veri
professionisti, cantanti e suonatori di oud in primis, è stato a tal punto proficuo da convincere Bano e
Chiavinato a registrare quanto più materiale possibile chiedendo, una volta tornati a casa, ai membri
del New Landscapes e ad altri amici musicisti di arricchirlo con un paziente lavoro in studio di
registrazione, che si è concluso soltanto nel mese di ottobre. Da un'imprevedibile ed altamente creativa
somma di energie è così nato quest'originale lavoro, «Waking sounds», che saprà catturare l'attenzione
degli appassionati di etnica e jazz, ma non solo. Il qanon (cetra a 78 corde della tradizione araba) di
Niwar Ismat Issa (Faraway so close), la suggestiva voce di Amin Tamo (Rojava), l'oud di Karim
Rashid (Comunication breakdown) e Saman Abdulkareem - coordinatore della parte mediorientale del
progetto - ma anche le tastiere di Aisha Ruggieri, le percussioni di Dario Bano, la fisarmonica di Sergio
Marchesini (è suo il brano cantabile e danzante che dà il titolo al disco), il clarinetto basso di Francesco
Ganassin, il violino di Silvia Rinaldi, il liuto e l'oud di Luca Chiavinato, che qui riprende la sua Walkissat
(da «Rumors»), hanno ognuno per la propria parte dato un importante contributo alla riuscita
dell'operazione. Ma l'affascinante risultato musicale finale è¨ frutto soprattutto di un lavoro collettivo, di
una paziente artigianalitè che ricorda le botteghe dei grandi maestri del Rinascimento italiano. Lo
confermano sia l'unico brano tradizionale dell'album, Reya kobare, che i quattro brevi Soundscapes,
importanti anelli di congiunzione fra i brani, non semplici riempitivi del Cd.

Just one year after «Rumors» (Caligola 2224), debut album that has drawn a lot of attention in different
musical areas due to its fresh transversality, the New Landscapes trio is protagonist of a new exciting
project, that looks to the Arabic music world, and especially the Middle-East. It all started from the
experience lived by Luca Chiavinato and percussionist Dario Bano in the summer of 2017 at the Domiz
Camp, in Iraqi Kurdistan, which has gathered over 30,000 Syrian refugees. A strong experience, as
they say, but at the same time very stimulating artistically. Working day after day with young musicians
at the Camp, but also with professionals, singers and oud players in primis, has been so productive to
convince Bano and Chiavinato to record as much material as possible, asking, once back home, to the
members of New Landscape and other musicians friends, to enrich it with a patient work in the
recording studio, which ended only in October 2017. This original work, «Walking sounds», is born from
an unpredictable and highly creative sum of energy, which will capture the attention of fans of ethnic
and jazz, but not only. The qanon (Arabian 78-stringed zither) by Niwar Ismat Issa (Faraway so close),
the suggestive voice of Amin Tamo (Rojava), the oud by Karim Rashid (Communication breakdown)
and Saman Abdulkareem - coordinator of the Middle Eastern part of the project - but also the
keyboards by Aisha Ruggieri, the percussion by Dario Bano, the accordion by Sergio Marchesini (the
singable and danceable title track is his), the bass clarinet by Francesco Ganassin, the violin by Silvia
Rinaldi, the lute and the oud by Luca Chiavinato, who resumed his Walkissat here (from «Rumors»),
each have for their part made an important contribution to the success of the operation. But the
fascinating musical outcome is the result of a collective work, a patient craftsmanship that recalls the
workshops of the great masters of the Italian Renaissance. This is confirmed by the only traditional
song on the album, Reya kobare, and the four short Soundscapes, important links between the songs,
not simple fillers of the Cd."
