«The Last Coat of Pink», dedicato alla musica dei Pink Floyd, è stato pubblicato da Caligola nel 2021 come disco del debutto di quest’originale trio acustico. Nel 2023 gli ha fatto seguito «Water's Break», dove sono stati reinterpretati brani del repertorio di Björk. Entrambi gli album sono disponibili sia in formato digitale che su compact–disc. Successivamente The Last Coat of Pink è diventato anche il nome del trio. Sentendo il bisogno di tornare alla sua ispirazione originaria, il gruppo ha quindi deciso di tornare in studio per realizzare un LP contenente cinque tracce del primo album di successo e di aggiungere a queste quattro nuove reinterpretazioni di brani tratti dal repertorio della storica band inglese. Tre delle nuove tracce hanno visto la partecipazione speciale di Francesco Bearzatti (sax tenore, clarinetto) che, trovatosi coinvolto nel progetto, ha voluto aggiungere le sue ance anche a due brani del precedente album: Is There Anybody Out There e Hey You. Con queste sovra incisioni alla fine ben sei delle undici tracce incluse nell’LP risultavano quindi nuove ed inedite. Ma perché riservare il piacere di queste novità soltanto ai cultori del vinile? Abbiamo così deciso di pubblicare un EP – disponibile per ora solo in formato digitale – che è di fatto un lavoro del tutto nuovo ed originale; il titolo scelto, «The Last Coat of Pink – After», vuole mettere in evidenza il collegamento all’album precedente. Fra i quattro nuovi brani c’è un vero e proprio gioiello, registrato dal solo trio: Incarceration of a Flower Child, brano composto nel 1968 da Roger Waters per Syd Barrett, subito dopo la sua uscita dai Pink Floyd, che la band non ha mai voluto incidere. Per decenni l’unica versione disponibile è stata quella presente in «Vagabond Ways», album del 1999 di Marianne Faithfull. Ventisette anni dopo, The Last Coat of Pink riporta alla luce questo dimenticato ma prezioso frammento dell’era Barrett, offrendone una propria personalissima interpretazione.

«The Last Coat of Pink», dedicated to the music of Pink Floyd, was released by Caligola in 2021 as the debut album of this unusual acoustic trio. In 2023 it was followed by «Water's Break», a reinterpretation of selected songs by Björk. Both albums are available in digital format as well as on compact-disc. Over time, The Last Coat of Pink also became the name of the trio itself. Feeling the need to return to their original inspiration, the group decided to return to the same studio to make an LP featuring five tracks from their first successful album alongside four new reinterpretations from the historic English band’s repertoire. Three of the new recordings feature special guest Francesco Bearzatti on tenor sax and clarinet. Feeling involved in the project, the saxophonist then decided to overdub two tracks from the previous album: Is There Anybody Out There and Hey You. Of the eleven tracks included on the LP, six are therefore previously unreleased. Why should only vinyl enthusiasts be able to enjoy them? This question led to the creation of a new EP—currently available exclusively in digital format—conceived as a work in its own right: «The Last Coat of Pink – After». Among the four new pieces is a true gem, recorded by the trio alone —Incarceration of a Flower Child, composed in 1968 by Roger Waters for Syd Barrett shortly after he left Pink Floyd. The band itself never recorded the song. For decades its only incarnation was the version preserved on «Vagabond Ways», an album released by Marianne Faithfull in 1999. Twenty-seven years later, The Last Coat of Pink return to this forgotten but precious fragment of the Barrett era, offering their own original interpretation —no small achievement.
