Non ama le cose semplici, Giorgia Sallustio, classe 1981, se per l’album del
suo debutto come solista ha scelto di reinterpretare ed arrangiare brani del
repertorio di uno dei pianisti che ha contribuito a scrivere una parte della
storia del jazz: Bill Evans. Nata a Palmanova e cresciuta a Novara, dove si è
diplomata con il massimo dei voti in chitarra classica, cui è seguita la laurea
in canto jazz al Conservatorio di Como – un’antica passione, la sua, quella per
la vocalità – la Sallustio arriva ad affrontare questo affascinante viaggio nel
mondo evansiano dopo le più diverse esperienze formative, sia nel campo della
musica pop, come vocalist del gruppo Dirotta su Cuba, che dopo aver
approfondito l’improvvisazione jazz studiando con cantanti del calibro di
Roberta Gambarini, Norma Winstone, Sheila Jordan, Maria Pia De Vito o Bob
Stoloff. «Around Evans» è stato concepito nel 2013 con l’aiuto di cinque amici
–musicisti ed il decisivo contributo del pianista Rudy Fantin, che ha curato con lei
gli arrangiamenti di tutti i brani del disco, ad eccezione di A house is not a home,
arrangiato da Giuseppe Emanuele, pianoforte, ospite insieme al trombettista
Alberto Mandarini della seduta di registrazione. Il progetto è naturalmente
incentrato sia su composizioni di Evans, come Turn out the stars e Time
remembered, che su standards da lui particolarmente amati, come Detour Ahead
ed Emily, ma comprende anche un brano originale con testo in italiano della
Sallustio, Il colore dell’inquietudine, ed uno di Roberto Cecchetto, Sea Ballad,
senza parole, in cui la voce diventa davvero uno strumento, confermando tutte le
grandi qualità musicali della giovane cantante friulana. Ci aiutano a capire meglio
lo spirito che l‘ha accompagnata in questo lavoro impegnativo ma riuscito, le belle
note di copertina scritte da Riccardo Bertoncelli, di cui riportiamo un estratto
: «Quest’album è un modo per conoscersi meglio, per trovare una voce, per
esprimere anche, con umiltà, un appassionato grazie a un musicista che tanto ha

Giorgia Sallustio, born in 1981, doesn’t like simple things if, for her debut album as a
leader, she chose to reinterpret and arrange songs from the repertoire of one of the pianists
who helped write a part of jazz history: Bill Evans.
Born in Palmanova (Udine) and raised in Novara, where she achieved a degree with
honors in classical guitar, followed by a degree in jazz singing at the Conservatory of
Como – an old passion of hers, that for the vocals – Sallustio comes to face this
fascinating journey into an Evans’ world, after the most diverse educational experiences,
both in the field of pop music, as a vocalist in the band Dirotta su Cuba, and of jazz
improvisation, after thorough studies with singers such as Roberta Gambarini, Norma
Winstone, Sheila Jordan , Maria Pia De Vito and Bob Stoloff.
«Around Evans» was conceived in 2013 with the help of five friends–musicians and with
the decisive contribution of pianist Rudy Fantin, who worked with her on the
arrangements of all the tunes in the album, except A house is not a home, arranged by
Giuseppe Emanuele, piano, along with trumpeter Alberto Mandarini, guest in the
recording session. The project is of course focused on compositions by Evans, as Turn out the stars and Time remembered, and on standards that he particularly loved, as Detour ahead and Emily, but
includes an original track with Italian lyrics by Sallustio as well, Il colore
dell’inquietudine, and one by Roberto Cecchetto, Sea ballad, without words, in which the
voice becomes a real instrument, confirming all the great musical qualities of the young
